The Echo of What Remains Collected Poems of Wanda Lea Brayton
— Inspired by "I Am Vertical" by Sylvia Plath
Diametrically opposed to becoming mere naked dust,
I remain, arisen from the gravity of an unkempt grave, submerged
in fragrances too fragile for my longing,
broad fingers unable to remember.
I have lain silent under a silvered sky,
vast with knowing.
Starlight no longer soothes the raucous, ravenous beasts within these bones -
I moan for the moon, liquid
and aware it cannot hear this languid lust tearing slowly at my heart.
