Beneath a Silent Moon

The Echo of What Remains Collected Poems of Wanda Lea Brayton

Inspired by Waiting by Rabindranath Tagore

Undeclared secrets swelled within my eyes
until you passed over my threshold,
your breath trembling.

Beneath a silent moon,
you pledged devotion and song
into the folds of my hands,
wove petals' fragrance upon my throat.

We shall understand this world together,
you vowed. We shall tend the soil with kindness,
seek our roots within noiseless fields of wildflowers.

Then, I knew why I'd remained so still
as you subdued this sorrowed, joyful passage
into the sunlit evolution, the fluent waters
surging inside your lucid arms.
