From Twilight: Inspired by Emily Dickinson

The Echo of What Remains Collected Poems of Wanda Lea Brayton

I've written five columns (so far) with information about the Belle of Amherst

Tenacious secretions of exalted fire
shall free these borrowed bones
from twilight -

my heart shall be exonerated,
an emptied echo chamber’s ascent into ash.

No more will survival’s sullen laughter
wound my wildness -
no more will rapture escape my thrust.

There will be no scars to reminisce upon
when I put on my silvery wings
and soar far beyond harm’s captive glance.

Stubborn in my sanctuary,
I shall forget all memories of mourning -
the only tears shed
will be for the abundance of beauty beneath my feet.
